Once the beating industrial heart of Brymbo, Lodge Valley was home to blast furnaces, chimneys, and slag heaps. For over a century, this land echoed with the roar of steelmaking. But today, the valley tells a very different story — one of renewal, resilience, and remarkable natural beauty.
A landscape Reclaimed
In the early 2000s, following the closure of the Brymbo Steelworks, the site was left scarred and contaminated. What followed was one of the most ambitious land reclamation projects in North Wales. Heavy metals were removed, old infrastructure dismantled, and the land reshaped to allow nature to thrive once more.
Did you Know?
More than 80 hectares of land were restored during the reclamation, transforming industrial spoil into rich meadows and clean waterways.
Wildlife Returns
Lodge Valley is now a haven for biodiversity. Insects hum over wildflower meadows. Frogs and newts bask by restored ponds. Buzzards glide above newly planted woodland, and foxes weave through the underbrush.
