Stori Explainer Volunteer

Purpose of the Role

To engage visitors or participants by sharing stories, history, or narratives in an accessible and engaging way, helping them connect more deeply with the subject matter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and interact with visitors in a friendly, approachable manner
  • Tell stories related to exhibits, events, or themes in an engaging way
  • Adapt storytelling style for different audiences (children, adults, families, etc.)
  • Answer basic questions and guide visitors to further information when needed
  • Help create a positive and inclusive visitor experience

Skills and Qualities

  • Strong communication and storytelling ability
  • Enthusiasm for history, culture, or the relevant subject area
  • Confidence speaking to individuals and small groups
  • Good listening skills and ability to respond to questions
  • Reliability and willingness to learn

Training and Support

  • Induction and background information on stories/content
  • Guidance on engaging different audiences
  • Ongoing support from staff or coordinators
